"Kalba" means language, tongue - "Lietuviu kalba" The Lithuanian Language. It also means "TALK."
The Yahoo Group mail system is down as I write, so this may be a substitute in a way for those writing in.
NOW: There may be several program broadcast today - depending on time and I will try to address a comment or two that is out of place.
COIN: A coin has to sides, HEADS and TAILS. When someone keeps repeating TAILS and forgetting HEADS or ignoring HEADS or refusing to investigate HEADS, or not admitting that there may be another side of a COIN, there is a problem. So, investigate both sides of a COIN and don't mix APPLES and ORANGES.
ORANGES do not grow in certain climates.
NOW, the purpose of "The Lithuanians.com" Lietuviai; it is about "The Lithuanians," those of Lithuanian descent and for those intersted in Lithuania. It deals with Lithuanian language, Lithuanian culture, Lithuanian music and so on.
The purpose is not dealing with other cultures, other languages etc. There is a place for everyone and the subjects are vast. The focus here is "Lithuanian."
Many other ethnic groups were given sanctuary in Lithuania by the Grand Dukes of Lithuania. Groups that were ousted from other parts of Europe and Asia were welcomed and allowed to flourish keeping their own culture, language, religions etc. and supported by the state.
Interruptions occurred because of subjugation by foreign powers etc. - this was a tragedy for all.
Some of the impacts have been and will continue to be mentioned as they impacted Lithuanians throughout history. Situations have been mentioned and presented in several movies like "Armija Krajova" and "Vienui Vieni" - the untold and unknown stories. And there are many more coming out. The HEADS part of the story, the ignored reality.
The truth is coming out and more and more will be coming out. Remember, there is more than one story and it is not one sided. Since Lithuania regained its Independence the people are FREE to express what had and has happened. And we will try to fill the void and bridge the gap of the "UNTOLD" story burning in many who will be PROUD to reveal the bravery and patriotic efforts of a people that we subjected to inhuman treatment for almost 200 years with a brief period of Independence.
So, it behoves us to learn some Lithuanian history - from some balanced and objective scholars, observers, first hand survivors - and to balance it against a one sided view from one side of the COIN. Flip it and see for your self.
A COIN does have two sides and both are not TAILS, there is also a fair COIN with HEADS.
The old saying "Heads I win, Tails you lose" has been used too many times - now I hope this made you think - with an OPEN mind and try a little KALBA.
