Well, a rare event, featuring a Lithuanian Group two days in a row. This broadcast of "The Lithuanians Voice" - Lietuviu Balasas will explain what I didn't in print.
.
My Thanks to my friend "Draugas " Virgis Stakenas [lower right ] for giving even me some inspiration. Notice I had the wrong spelling of the Group I was looking for. In the upper left hand corner is "Mr Jonis," Pranciskus Trijonis who was credited with Karcema's inspiration along with Virgis.
.
Listen to Karcema and some new sound. Should you be in Lietuva, pick up this group's music. They have been entertaining us since 2002 through our broadcasts. I would appreciate some of their music to broadcast also.
.
Karcema is led by Vygantas Stoskus [ pronounced Stosh kus]

Bringing you Lietuvybe / That Lithuianian Spirit and promoting Lithuanian Entertainers. All from "The Lithuanians" website.

FIRST NAMES

Over the years we built quite a resource in our "The Lithuanians dot Com" website. So, in order to inform you about our resources, we will try to feature various areas from time to time.

I noticed that "Names" seem to be the one single category that draws the most interest. So, lets begin here. Lithuanian First Names. This Chapter is found in the book we sponsor, "The Lithuanians" by Juozas Kudirka.

In 2001, I began an Etymology of Lithuanian First Names, but this was not enough. People were looking for true Lithuanian first names not guessed at or so called "invented" or Slavic names that were not Lithuanian. So, an intensive effort got started to put out as good a list as possible.

The result was the inclusion of the list in one of my Yahoo Groups. But that was not enough. So, It was published in our second edition The Lithuanians website. That one ran out of free space, so we launched a new website with much more capacity.

Go to our The Lithuanians website and to the NAMES tab. Go to the Overview of Lithuanian First Names and see The Lithuanian First Names It includes an Alphabetical list of over 3,500 First Names and a short Etymology section.

At least read the Introduction. It will provide you with some information that may be new to you. You will notice a few letters missing in the alphabet. They don't exist in the Lithuanian alphabet. But that is another feature at a later date.

Settlements and Farmsteads of Lithuania,
Musu Miesteliai - Our Towns.

You may be interested in reading about how rural Lithuanians live.

We have sponsored the book written by Juozas Kudirka for several years, The Lithuanians." It can be found in our LIBRARY area, see this tab. In addition, there is a new television series underway, "Musu Miesteliai" - Our Towns, coming from Lithuanian National Television. This has been added to our Member Archive and as previously mentioned, a new segment is added each week until we catch up to this Monthly series. There is also a delayed segment available in the Preview of Programs, by the same name.

Get an appreciation of Lithuanian Life, history and culture by reading this book and viewing these segments.

This is our attempt at bringing you Lietuvbe - That Lithuanian Spirit - our "little network" effort outside of Lietuva. The purpose of which is to address your needs and concerns. May these wishes and desires be fulfilled.

Our effort began some years ago, in 1999. In 2001 we began a limited audio effort to help those interested in learning the Lithuanian language. Segments of audio and text were developed to teach a word, a phrase a sentence in a conversational manner with the limited resources at our disposal.
.
With time and technology we progressed, almost leaped ahead to the point now where we can utilized daily television programs from Lithuania, to not only teach the Lithuanian language, but also keep abreast of most cultural aspects of Lithuanian life.
.
So with this in mind, I urge those that are able, to tune in to our daily re broadcasts of Lithuanian television programs to stay on top of current events and also improve upon their language skills over time. The continuous observation and listening to programing will benefit the conversational style of learning the language. This will force you to learn, as a child learns language from parents from birth. Try it, and you will see the marvelous teaching take place. Get a dictionary and maybe a beginners grammar text. There are several in The Lithuanians Store.
.
The visual aspect will also add to the learning of cultural aspects of daily life and subject matter brought forward to public view.
In effect, this will be just like watching your home television set, except these programs come to you from Lietuva / Lithuania through our efforts on a timely daily basis. Miss a day. That's OK. There will be another program another day, same as on you TV at home.
.
Take advantage of our "Member Archive" and our media efforts to do all this either through radio broadcasts, television broadcasts or theater presentations. Then to there are some additional resources inside the Member Archive, like a limited Language school / classes with some text and audio. It's like having your next best thing to a cable network. Scroll down the page to find out more.
.
This is a rare opportunity that has developed gradually over time. Make use of it. If you're in a Yahoo Group, you have yet to find one like "The Lithuanians Yahoo Group" for some of the reasons mentioned.
.
CONTACT US and JOIN US.
.
You may just learn a lot about your Lithuanian heritage, and have a lot of fun along the way. So come join this journey we are on, one step at a time. With some discipline and establishing a daily routine you will reach your goals. Just make that commitment that you will do what you have been seeking. And you will get there, at your pace. But, you have to be true to yourself and just do it.
.
If anything, all this might just add to your preparation for your visit to Lietuva.
.
It may even be painless.

Did you know that our machine is called "Ateitis" - The Future? Yes it was built by our Lithuanian Technical Team last year. In fact it was started just about a year ago.

.

It is from "Ateitis" and related machines that we produce, convert, develop, etc. all our programs. It is a substantial piece of hardware like no other. Probably the envy of many as they try to figure out "How do They do All That They Do.".

Actually, it's quite simple. We work at it until it is accomplished. See and hear our pride displayed here on the Internet. http://www.thelithuanians.com/

.

And, all this is done without VIS^TA. [Vis^ta means chicken in Lithuanian]

Yes, a Dixieland style band from Kaunas, Lithuania. Hear some of their songs and a returning engagement, here at "The Lithuanians Voice" - Lietuviu Balsas. This band has been featured numerous times, followed by more requests to have them back.
.
We have a new listener from Milton, Ontario, Canada: Welcome, Lou. Also, thank you Teresa, Glasgow, UK.

WHO, WHAT, WHERE, HOW, WHY ?????
• Who are we talking about that came to this Baltic region thousands of years ago?
• What happened to these ancient people?
• Where are they today ?
• How is it possible for such a small nation to survive so long ?
• Why are so many interested in a language that is as old as it is modern?
• You might just find some answers to these questions by clicking on the connecting links.
• Maybe this will take you on a most interesting journey.
.
I hope you had an interesting experience this past weekend observing the 90Th Anniversary of the reestablishment of the Lithuanian State - February 16, 1918.
You may not have understood their dialog, but the feeling, emotion and pride should have come through.
.
In one of the panel discussions, in Lithuanian, many thoughts were expressed.
.
My immediate notion that came to mind was to grab my dictionary and translate a few words I had difficulty with. So, the importance of learning Lithuanian.
.
The thing I did remember, and that stood out, was the discussion about "Lyderis" - Leader.
The point was made that in order for things to happen a leader has to be in the forefront, one that is capable and one that people follow. A leader of this caliber come along at rare times in history. Leaders that change the world are a rarity, especially great leaders.
.
Well, Lithuania has such leaders, like Mindaugas, Lithuania's first and only king and Vytautas The Great, the Grand Duke of the GDL, Grand Duchy of Lithuania.
.
It is these Lithuanian leaders and a few other Grand Dukes that made a significant impact on the European Continent that few know about.
.
The importance of what happened should be studied, as should the culture and the Lithuanian language.
If you want to know about your forefathers, learn about Lithuania.
.
I hope that this effort is bringing you a little closer to filling your search and that burning inside.
The opening of this entry can be found on the first page of "The Lithuanian" website.

Well, much has been done since 2001 and hopefully more is ahead. If you don't know this by now, we have a mini network at our disposal that we created. "The Lithuanians Member Archive"
This involves Text, Audio and Video. Our resources are very unique - having a Language School, Radio Station, Theater, Television station and an actual Production Studio to do all this.
.
As such we are seeking subscribers to share our resources that have been developed - of a Lithuanian interest. We have expanded so much that it has become a full time effort [ for many years now] and expanded into a sunbtantial studio. The physical studio is very well equipped now with many resources. Last year, 2007, Studio "A" was upgraded 100% at a substantial / large investment.
.
To maintain, continue and expand, this effort needs a revenue stream. Toward this end advertising will be added to our website, Our Store-Parduotuve will be expanding and our Member Archive subscription effort will have to expand. Subscribers and contributors are still needed to make this a success. This last part, the users are needed to help fund our efforts.
.
So, if you like what we do and wish to be a part of all this, Subscribe and add a contribution.
And you too will be able to enter the "Member Archive."
.
A new effort will be under way - consider subscribing to the BlogSpot also, to be kept informed.
But to get full benefit, Subscribe to "The Lithuanians Member Archive" > see and hear a small segment of our effort in the PREVIEW OF PROGRAMS
