The Lithuanians Voice: Freedom Laisve - Apathy Apatija

I have observed how astonished people are while they sit and watch the actions of a few million brave individuals in the Baltic nations of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia.

.

They marvel at these people for picking themselves up and walking out of the foreign strangle hold. They marvel at the Baltic Human chain, in a video, from Vilnius to Riga to Tallinn, as people hold hands and sing.

.

They also enjoy seeing the enormous change that has transformed these nations in viable Democratic republics. Still struggling but ever making progress. Still mindful of the difficulties involved in growing back into Democracies.

.

The citizens going to work daily with a "song" in the air, the song of freedom, the joy of being free

but aware of the cost of freedom. The attitude growing that they can do for themselves far better by their own choice versus someone making their decisions for them. Some times these are hard choices.

.

I watch some of the Television shows from Lithuania and see an audience swaying with smiles and color in their faces unlike the gray stoic looks of the colorless prior life. I see the mood, feel the surge of optimism, the feel for the future, for themselves and their children, always the children who are the future.

.

I thought, would those watching these Television programs from the comfort of their sofas be willing to support a cause. Or, leave it for someone else to deal with for another day or never.

Received several email dealing with Lithuanian Language lessons, and recommending that we use our huge resources to start a project in teaching the Lithuanian language.

Very Good Idea.

Here is the good news. We started doing just that in the Spring of 2001 in our Yahoo Group - "audio" lessons. And, continued as we added lessons at our first major website on the Internet "The Lithuanians."

This one ran out of room so we decided to build a new one. The one you visit on occasion, ["thelithuanians.com ]

This is a long seven plus year story. Please browse our website "The Lithuanians" and find out about our long standing language effort - started with an audio file under 60 seconds long in a bi-lingual format in 2001.

You still can access "The Lithuanians" website during our transitional-upgrade. I'm told that all may be complete by Friday. Again, updates to this website are on hold until transition steps are completed. My apologies for the extended interruption.

YAHOO GROUPS: On April 2, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM PST: Yahoo Groups will be conducting emergency planned maintenance on the Groups site. During this time, some groups will become unavailable for up to 30 minutes. Mail to some groups may also be delayed for up to 60 minutes.

As far as I know, we are back in a transition - upgrade process going from our present server to a new set of servers [will be a great improvement]. This may last another day - cross your fingers.

I do not want to bore you, but I do wish to inform you that once again I can not access my tools to add or update programs at our website "The Lithuanians" so I will use "RaymondBalta" website as a backup, limited to new programs. IE: Labas Rytas, Panorama, and The Lithuanians radio broadcasts - until the conclusion of our transition and then migration to the Internet. [This last part takes about 24 hours] Now now to Lithuanian programing.

At "RaymondBalta.com" a few changes have been made and development is under way to enhance this site also. Here, experiments will be made and later Incorporated in to our main website.
