DARIUS AND GIRENAS TRILOGY - SPECIAL
From Lithuanian National Television we will be presenting a Three Part Series on Lithuanian Aviation.
Skrydis per Atlanta - Flight Across the Atlantic - A movie about Darius and Girenas. This historic flight took place a little more than six years after Charles Lindbergh's first flight crossing the Atlantic in the Spirit of St.Louis.
Darius and Girenas flight was a record endurance flight of 4,465 miles, non stop in a plane not designed for that distance. And, proved the practicality of air transport as the first mail carrier. Their near perfect flight ended 404 miles short of their final destination,Kaunas, shot down by German gunners. The navigation was perfect up to this point, without a radio.
Sparno Broliai - Wing's Brothers [2003]- Two present day Pilots, Gintautas Staniulis ir Viktoras Ramonas of Kaunas celebrated the 70Th Anniversary of Darius and Girenas [Now 75TH] with their flight and their experiences in preparation.
The entire round trip flight of 17,000 km took 67.5 hours in the air.
Returned on July 15, 2003 from New York in 13 hours 45 minutes to a crowd awaiting their return.
The entire journey took place with pinpoint accuracy as planned to the minute.
