The Christmas tree is the greatest joy for children. The tradition of decorating a Christmas tree came to Lithuania at the turn of the 20th century Christmas tree decorations used to be made of pieces of straw strung together on a thread into intricate geometrical figures, coloured egg shells and pastry were used to make birds, horses, squirrels, lambs, moons, suns, stars, flowers and other figurines. Christmas trees were also decorated with apples, fir or pine cones, nuts and paper cuttings. The Christmas tree has always been the place where family members leave presents for each other.

Christmas Eve customs reflect the best moral traditions of the Lithuanian nation. It is a day of thanksgiving and national unity.

Visa Free Travel to US Starts November 17 for Lithuanian Citizens

NEWS From Lithuania:

No visas required to U.S. beginning November 17, strict procedure remains

Vilnius, Oct 30 - Michael Chertoff, United States Secretary of Homeland Security, paying a working visit to Lithuania officially confirmed on Thursday that Lithuanian citizens would be allowed to enter the U.S. without visas as of November 17.

However, requirements under the U.S. Visa Waiver Program will remain strict. Individuals will have to register in the Electronic System for Travel Authorization and even when the authorization is received, there will be no guarantee that the citizens will be allowed to enter the country. Moreover, only citizens with bio metrical passports will be able to go to the U.S. It will be possible to spend up to 90 days in the U.S.

Visa Free Travel to US Starts November 17 for Lithuanian Citizens

Vilnius, Oct 27 (ELTA) - Lithuanian citizens will be able to enter the United States without visas from November 17, 2008, the representatives of the U.S. Embassy in Vilnius said on Monday.

Persons wishing to go to the U.S. will have to have biometric passports and will be able to stay a maximim of 90 days for the purposes of tourism, business and other personal travel The citizens of Lithuania going to the U.S. will have to use the Electronic System for Travel Authorization.

.

More details concerning the visa-free system will be announced by Michael Chertoff, Secretary of U.S. Department of Homeland Security, who will visit Vilnius later this week.

In the current Vilnius Concert and Sports Palace, Lithuania's inaugural transformation Movement Convention was held. Historical Revival of the event reached its 20 th anniversary. On that occasion, Lithuanian TV broadcast this unique Congress Video
Video of the broadcasts were prepared by the director Juozas Sabolius and journalist Ausra Kalinauskiene.

Juozas Sabolius said: "Lithuanian television archive has protected / saved both Movement Convention videos. The two 100 minute programs contain the most interesting moments. 1988 23 August rally in Vilnius Park was also one of the most memorable Renaissance events. "
