• Many are interested in finding Lithuanian first names for various reasons.
• They may be looking for a name for an expected baby.

Background - significance of the dates:

.
After centuries of occupation, Lithuania re-established its independence on February 16, 1918.

.
The first written mention of Lithuania is found in a medieval German manuscript, the Quedlinburg Chronicle, on 14 February 1009. - This is the 1,000Th anniversary of that date.

.

However, Lithuanians precede that date by thousands of years with their presence along the Baltic shores and in Central Europe.

.

At the conclusion of World War II Lithuania found itself once again occupied by a foreign oppressor.
Between 1944 and 1953 the Lithuanian Army went underground, as partisans, in an attempt to rid Lithuania of its foreign occupiers, the Soviet.

.
It wasn't until 1991 that Lithuania once again re-established Independence.

.
Today's broadcast does several things.
It reminds us of the effort Lithuanians went through to achieve "Freedom" and the pain they went through. All for country and the preservation of their heritage.

.
And, the important role of song, even under adverse conditions in the fight for freedom and while in exile in Siberia.

.
Song lifted the soul and the spirit. Song reminded us who we are, The Lithuanians.
With song Lithuanians would always be free and then became free.

NOTES: Labas rytas is used until about 10 AM. From then, until about 6-8 PM., depending on the time of the year: Laba diena! After that: Labas vakaras One never uses these expressions on taking leave. Labas! alone can be used as a short 'Hello!', 'Hi!' at any time of the day.

1,1 There are no articles in Lithuanian. Thus, studentas can mean: student, the student, a student.
1.2 There are only two genders in Lithuanian nouns: masculine and feminine.All nouns ending in -as are masculine.

1.3 The Present Tense of buti 'to be'

• I am - aš esiu - .
• you are - tu esi
• he, she is - jis, ji yra -
• we are - mes esame
• you are - jus esate - -
• they are - jie, jos yra
  

The Present Tense of eiti 'to go'.

• I go - aš einiu
• You go - tu eini
• He , She goes - jis, ji eina
• we go - - mes einame
• you go - jus einate
• they go - - jie, jos eina
  

The second person singular tu which corresponds to English thou is used to address children, real friends, members of the immediate family and God. It would correspond in use to German du or French tu. The second person plural is used for polite address:

• Petrai, kur tu eini? - Peter, where are you going?
• Pone Petraiti, kur jus einate? - Mr. Petraitis, where are you going?
  

There is no progressive form in Lithuanian. Thus aš einu can mean: I go, I am going, I do go.
There is no auxiliary "to do" to help to form questions: you have to indicate the question by the tone of your voice, or by putting the little word "ar "in front of a question which has no other interrogative word in it. Thus:

• Čia [.yra]* mano namas. - Here is my house.
• Čia mano namas? - Is my house here?
• Ar čia mano namas? - Is my house here?
• Kur mano namas? - Where is my house?
