Post Script: Senelis Šaltis was the term used for Santa Claus during the Soviet period. Lithuanians say Kalėdų Senelis. Kalėdos means Christmas was not recognized by the Soviet authorities.  This video is not politically motivated. It mearly brings forth excellent graphic content and tells a story in Lithuanian. Some see this in a different twisted light. We did not copyright our effort, not was it copyrighted to begin with. Sharing these annimations is part of our mission to share Lithuanian culture, history and language. There were periods in Lithuanian history that were regretible, periods of horror. periods of cruelty. However, even with this, a people managed to have bright spots and kept their culture, language and heritage alive.

This is also one of those efforts that brings this forward and shares Lietuvybe - truth be told.

Please note that in this annimation it is not Kūčios [Christmas Eve 12/24] that is mentioned but rather News Years Eve 12/31.

Kučios, Christmas Eve is the Holiest Lithuanian Holiday, the most cherished by All Lithuanians. The Soviets had compromises and alway found a way to give some atheistic or agnostic version to placate the populace. Lithuanians, in their own way, never gave in. Privatley, unofficially and in their own homes all Christian, cultural, and heritage aspects were passed on. How else would a people and a language last for thousands of years. How, is it that Lithuanian is considered the "Oldest LIVING Language." That must tell you something about THE LITHUANIANS.

To the cynics, non-Lithuanians - its too late. The truth has come out and more is coming.

The Lithuanians: "We The People" - We Chose this country - Some Had No Choice

I have many things to be thankful for.
This will be my 61st Christmas Eve in America having arrived to the USA on October 30, 1948.

As an immigrant family escaping Soviet tyranny and the first Lithuanians of the New Wave post World War II to arrive in South Boston, it was not easy. We had no other contact with new arrivals until the following year. Our First Christmas Eve - Kucios was celebrated with relief.

As an immigrant family, we were a new unknown factor to many in the neighborhood.

In short, what saved "my life" many times was a phrase my father taught me. "We chose this country, you had no choice." There was more .. but this expalined much to ignorant behavior and expressed our love for America and Freedom. Some just took it for granted.

I will never forget these words and HOW proud I am to be an American on This Christmas Eve and many other occasions.

It just saddens me when there are those that do not think of America's best interest or forget that "We The People" formed this wonderful Democracy for All The People and not a special interest few . Some still just take it for granted and that they serve the people at the will of the people
