First H1N1 death confirmed in Lithuania

Vilnius, Nov 18 - The new type of flu, the so-called swine flu, has claimed a life in Lithuania. A teenager died of bacterial infection caused by the flu on Tuesday evening, ELTA was told by Ieva Paulauskiene, spokeswoman for the health minister.

A fourteen-year old boy died from the complication of pandemic flu in the Kaunas University of Medicine Hospital.

The municipalities of Lithuania start announcing influenza epidemics in their territories. Health Minister Algis Caplikas has ordered infectious hospitals and hospitals with infectious disease departments to distribute anti-virals from the state reserve.
