The Lithuanians: Town of Akmenė, Lithuania flyover

Town of Akmenė, Lithuania Flyover

Akmenė is a town in northern Lithuania, Šiauliai County that became famous when geologists found large reserves of limestone and clay there and in 1947 construction work was begun on one of the biggest cement production complexes in the Baltic States.

A new village was built to become the town's administrative centre:
Naujoji Akmenė (means the New Akmenė). Akmuo means Stone in English.
