Lithuanian American - Introduction

Raymond Balta was born in a little country in central Europe, Lithuania.
Today Lithuania is rather well known, at least known by more than many years ago.
The pride of his native land has been burning inside since early childhood. Every
once in a while he is asked about Lithuania by friends, neighbors or even strangers
when they find out his heritage, his roots.

This is his story. The story of many. How he became a proud Lithuanian American without forgetting his heritage.

Lithuanian Potato Pancakes

The simplest recipe for making BASIC Lithuanian Potato Pancakes

Naturally, you may come across numerous traditional variations depending on the Lithuanian Ethnic Region and the preparers talent at making it unique. What makes this recipe unique is the bacon, pork and sour cream that farmers added to the meal. A meal in Lithuania is not complete without sour cream.

The potato originated from the Western Hemisphere, introduced by the Spanish to Europe in the second half of the 16th century. The Russet Burbank potato was developed in Lunenburg Massachusetts. Most French Fries  are made from the Russet potato

The Maine potato may be the best for these potato pancakes. Only problem is by October / November of each year this spud is hard to get. They sell out the entire crop annually [with exceptions].

Ausytes - Kucios Lithuanian Christmas Eve Appetizer

Ausytes
- Kucios Lithuanian Christmas Eve Appetizer

The simplest recipe for making a BASIC recipe for Ausytes Lithuanian Christmas Eve Appetizer.
Kucios is the Christmas Eve celebration by Lithuanians. The recipe is in its most basic form for making Aysytes.

HOWEVER: The dough can be hand made. Mushrooms are cooked by some, then diced.
Finely diced onions sauteed in canola oil and then add the mushrooms, spice with salt or Soy Sauce and stir to taste. Some even boil the Ausytes and eat with sour cream on the side. Frying the Ausytes may actually be the tastiest, eaten along with a broth made with Beet Juice and some Fish broth.

Naturally, you may come across numerous traditional variations depending on the Lithuanian Ethnic Region and the preparers talent at making it unique.

But, the Kucios tradition most often includes Ausytes.

This question has been asked of me numerous times "Are you an American or a Lithuanian?"

Just answered another comment on YouTube: [Wow comments and I haven't finished an announcement]

I hope this answered many inquiries. I never gave it much thought, in that I have been a Lithuanian for so long. But, an American is unusual. As I mentioned, America is a melting pot.

I really appreciate America, unlike some. You see my answer to some in America who don't appreciate America is "I picked America, You had no choice."

Some Lithuanians don't appreciate Lietuva. You only appreciate something after you lose it or when you have a choice. Keep it and Love it. Live FREE or Die - NH state motto
